what is Izibele
Izibele means "grace" in the South African language isiXhosa, Nelson Mandela's language.
We are a Toronto gift shop selling rare and beautiful, socially responsible, handmade art and collectibles imported from Africa both online and in-store. We work closely with a small community of highly skilled artisans who support their families with their fine handicrafts. Our mission is to help people find that special gift, whether the occasion be a birthday, Christmas, Valentine's Day, anniversary or housewarming. Our ceramics, baskets, textiles and beadwork make beautiful souvenirs and décor pieces whether you've just bought a new condo, renovated your kitchen or want to refresh your home or cottage.
meet abi
Owner Abigail Pugh was born in England, lives in Toronto, and has travelled to Southern Africa since the age of 18. During recent trips to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, Abi met many astonishingly talented, hardworking artists and artisans — many of whom sold only locally before connecting with Izibele. Abi’s passion is to share with the world the extraordinary variety, skill and joyful play of African design. We also sell locally made items by Toronto artisans; always on the hunt for new talent, wherever it’s from.
